When Bad Things Happen

When bad things happen, it is challenging to be calm. You want immediate solutions to your problems and immediate answers to your questions. Dealing with bad things in life can be frustrating.  Sometimes things go smoothly and all is well. Sometimes life seems to be a continuous series of ups and downs. Usually it is a combination of both. Good things happen and bad things happen. The key to moving through troubles is to trust in the process of life.

When life brings you unpleasant experiences, what can you do? You could get bogged down in your misery. Or you could recognize that life is a flow of multiple experiences and every experience brings the potential for personal growth. The process of life is not entirely in your control. There are some things you can control and many that you have no impact on. This is the true nature of life. How you choose to react when bad things happen is in your control.

When bad things happen, take a step back and identify your emotional response. Label the emotion. Is it anger? Fear? Guilt? Sadness? Give it a name. Acknowledge what you are feeling. Say “I feel (fill in the blank.) Place your hands over your heart and connect with The Loving Universe. Ask to be in the present moment, in a loving space of peacefulness and harmony, with the emotion you feel. Doing this, will help you be more at peace when bad things happen.
