Relieving Anxiety

When times are challenging, relieving anxiety can be difficult. During this pandemic, news is focused on the problems and not solutions. The government and medical system don’t seem to know how to stop rapid the progression of the corona virus, other than distancing yourself from other people and washing your hands. If you get caught up in the panic and fear, your anxiety levels will continue to increase.

Relieving anxiety is not easy when all news seems to be bad news. The rapid shift from freedom to socialize and go anywhere to living in a society where people are stuck at home, has created anxiety in many people. We were used to one way of going through our daily lives and are now restricted. If you feel anxious, it may be a direct result of the changes the pandemic has brought.

When you feel anxiety coming on, nip it in the bud before it grows. Remind yourself that this situation is only temporary and it will pass. If your anxiety is strong, stop what you are doing. Sit down. Close your eyes. Take a long slow deep breath to the count of ten. Hold it for the count of ten. Then slowly release it to the count of twenty. Repeat this until you feel more relaxed. This simple breathing technique is useful in relieving anxiety about the current pandemic or anytime your anxiety is high.
